About me

I’ve been an avid crime fiction fan for years, and becoming a writer is a new adventure for me. Other writers have been generous in their encouragement, and I am very fortunate to be published by Quercus and to work with the great team there, and to be represented by Rebecca Carter, my agent, at Rebecca Carter Literary.

Like Clare, I’ve been a vicar in the Church of England, working in a village parish in Kent and in London. I also worked as a hospice chaplain in London and in Kent, offering spiritual support of various kinds to those nearing the end of life, and to those who are alongside them.

I continue working in a range of local churches covering services- a bit like a supply teacher- and now combine that with writing crime novels.

Rev Clare is a fictional character, but I took snippets from my own and clergy friends’ experiences and fictionalised them.

I’ve always loved novels and the way in which they connect us with others’ thoughts and experiences. Different people’s stories are endlessly fascinating, and aspects of faith and spirituality have always interested me. There is such variety amongst crime fiction with so many brilliant writers. I love reading their work, as well as enjoying writing some of my own.
